Safety, Science, & How It Works

Common questions from athletes, coaches, and parents

Is this program safe for teens?

Yes. Every movement is analyzed for efficient biomechanics, so anything done “wrong” is corrected within 24 hours by one of our D1/Pro athlete mentors. The movement patterns taught in our system make “regular training” and athletic competition safer as well. We train the brain to move the body in a manner that reduces stress and strain on joints and soft tissues.

How much equipment and time do I need to get started?

You can train with us with nothing but a motivated mind. All of our programs are adaptable to fit the athlete’s unique circumstances. Our offerings range from ~20 minutes daily to around ~90 minutes daily. Each D1/Pro athlete mentor’s first priority with an athlete is to understand their needs such that they can be matched with the proper program.

I already train with my team. How is this any different?

Your team training focuses on improving movement alone through physical methods (jumping, running, lifting). We understand that the brain is “in charge” of all change, both physically, and mentally, so we uniquely target change in the brain via a science-driven blend of mental, cognitive, and physical modalities that together “rewire” the way the brain adapts the body and controls movement and thinking.

Do I stop doing this when I’m in-season?

We strongly recommend training in the system year round, as it primes the brain/body for competition while also recovering the athlete more rapidly between efforts. Our D1/Pro athlete mentors use Cortex training alongside their team training in-season, and we encourage all program enrollees to do the same.

What does “brain-based” training achieve?

Overall, it allows the brain to have greater command over movement and thinking.

Our athletes most commonly report the following:

  • Rapid improvement strength, speed, and power #s (see average improvements here)
  • Less feeling of tension and strain in movement and thus higher immunity to fatigue.
  • Improved intrinsic motivation to excel in athletics, academics, and life.
  • Less performance anxiety, worry, and overthinking.
Will this help me get a college scholarship?

Yes. Our athletes excel in recruitment because one of the most direct consequences of neuromuscular training is dramatic improvement in combine metrics (sprints, jumps, etc.). Once the #s are there, we help with recruitment communications via our specialized strategy sessions. Many Cortex athletes have taken their talents to the next level.
